2022/2023

January 1st, 2023

As we bring in the new year, I thought it would be a great time for reflection and planning.

Highlights - 2022

I competed in Game Maker Toolkit Game Jam 2022 solo and got overall #1696 out of about 6k entries! Not my best work, but pretty happy considering I haven’t made a finished prototype in a while. I’ve come to realize doing the occasional game jam is vital in keeping the creative juices flowing in me. I hope to have a space here on this site for prototypes, but for now here is the link to the itch.io web version.

I took part in the Mission to Minerva challenge to learn Unreal Engine 5, practice writing, cinematography, facial capture acting, and direction. I came out with a decent little sci-fi short that I learned a ton from, and was able to work with some fantastic voice actors. The short is called "Minerva Rebellion".

I unfortunately decided to drop all work on a 3D platforming game I was working on. This was mainly due to the fact that the main artist I was collaborating with was from Russia, and due to the recent sanctions, I was no longer able to send him digital payments for his work. I truly wish I can work with this artist again once all these issues get sorted out… Please check out his work over here.

I've started work on 2 new projects; both "officially" unannounced! All I will say is that one of the video game projects is based on a Hindu god that has been important to me for a long time:  Hanuman. It turns out a lot of his lore in the Ramayana epic is ripe for an adaption. The other game is something I’m building more as practice, to acquire the experience of building a whole game from start to completion and learning about publishing/marketing and the storefront aspect of things. This project is currently called "Diabolus Ursi", and I hope to be sharing some news of this in the short-term future.

Planning - 2023

I would definitely like to continue my journey into Unreal Engine 5, and the even recent minor updates (like 5.1) have been instrumental in making 3D art creation accessible to me personally. The immediate results you get with the little fiddling needed in Unreal Engine 5 is pretty great, and there’s still so much I haven’t really learned about yet. I hope to delve deeper into ControlRig animations and C++ scripting within UE5. I would also like to make another 3d animation, taking all the lessons learned from my previous short “Minerva Rebellion”

Finally, I aim to continue full steam ahead on my 2 main video game projects mentioned previously. One based on the hindu god Hanuman, and the other game project which is called Diabolus Ursi. They’re both massive passion projects of mine, and I’m truly excited to bring them to life and share them with everyone.

Here's to an exciting new year everyone, cheers.
